The R.W. Norton Fine art Gallery will host its annual Bloom! Festival ten a.m. to 3 p.g. Saturday, March 23 in the Norton Gardens — a manicured mural cascading across 43 acres of the museum's grounds, located at 4747 Creswell Ave. in South Highlands.

The festival has blossomed into a multi-twenty-four hours event series including an art showroom, interactive art installation, movie watching session and more.

"It'southward become one of our favorite things of the year and a way to bring the community in," said Emily Young Feazel, Designer, Special Events and Exhibits at R.W. Norton Art Gallery. "We had shut to 3,000 people last yr, so I'm expecting information technology to proceed getting bigger and bigger."

Flower! Fine art Exhibition

Information technology'south the fourth year for the exhibit, which began with a mission to highlight regional artists and showcase their work, in conjunction with the Flower! Festival. It's grown from Shreveport-Bossier Urban center artists to include artists from cities and states beyond the U.S., including Seattle, Nashville, North Carolina, Arkansas and Texas, Feazel said.

The exhibition was juried past local fine art professionals who reviewed more than 193 submissions and selected 50 works to showcase.

Artists were tasked with creating an original artwork that incorporated flowers or a floral design, depicted in some aspect.

"What I find to exist so intriguing about it is that you lot're searching for what the total meaning of what 'bloom' ways. A lot of times people are thinking of flowers and plant life, but sometimes it's about expression of self," said Katy Larsen, juror and owner of The Agora Borealis Art Market.

Mediums includes collages, watercolors, drawings, pen and ink and oil paintings.

Subjects ranged as some artists took traditional avenues of flowers in vases and landscapes, while some others took innovative approaches, such equally creating scientific diagrams of flowers, said Sean FitzGibbons, a Bloom! juror and onetime director of the Meadows Museum at Centenary College.

"It was very heady to run into how artists interpreted a wide territorial concept," FitzGibbons said.

In addition to ensuring the artists' works fit into the theme of Blossom!, jurors considered 'the artist'due south voice' – or the originality and manner the creative person was able to convey in the piece," FitzGibbons said. Jurors also looked at the artists' ability to produce a piece with professional, polished craftsmanship. The collection includes works from students and veteran artists.

The collection abounds with colorful and playful pieces celebrating nature, Larsen said.

"Information technology's really bright, fun and funky," she said. "There are really bully pieces in in that location that may make you think about it twice. And who doesn't love the Norton? The space alone is worth going to."

The art installation

The art continues outside with the String Fling Outdoor Art Installation. Registered community groups will piece of work together to create large, brightly-colored blooms using strings and dowel rods from 3 p.1000. to seven p.m. Friday on the front lawn of the museum.

Registration is closed but stop by Fri to meet the volunteer artists at piece of work. The completed flowers will exist on display during the festival Saturday.
